Meet Our Tennis Pros
Ryan Roeth – Director of Tennis
USPTA Elite Professional
Ryan is excited to be back in Des Moines where he grew up and started his tennis career back in 2001. He was in Ames from 2005 to 2014 and built one of the strongest junior programs in the state with the Ames Tennis Academy. Before returning to Aspen in August 2016, he served as the Director of Tennis/GM of the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, IL where he started the THRIVE Tennis Academy which has become one of the top junior programs in the area.
His programs have produced numerous highly ranked sectional and national players. His students have had incredible success in Iowa high school tennis as well. He has coached more than 150 players who have qualified for the state tournament, with 12 of them winning state individual championships.
Throughout his career, Ryan has been very active in promoting tennis through the USTA. He served 9 years as the Executive Secretary for the Iowa Tennis Association. He is currently on the USTA/MV Coaches Commission, Iowa District Junior Competition Committee, has coached at several Regional Training Center Camps, and is currently the lead coach for the Iowa Early Development Camps (EDC).
In 2015 Ryan received the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) “Iowa Pro of the Year” and awards for “Event of the Year” and “10 & Under Provider” from the USTA Iowa District
Bob Peterson – Tennis Professional
Bob is a native of Des Moines, and graduated from Hoover High School, but not before winning 2 State Singles titles. He attended the University of Louisville on an athletic scholarship and was captain of the Cardinals tennis team, which was ranked in the top 50. Bob has been the Director of Tennis at DM Golf and Country Club, as well as other clubs, and has trained and coached several high school state champions and nationally ranked players. Bob has been a USPTA and PTR certified tennis pro for over 25 years. Bob is available for private tennis lessons, as well as team clinics.
Austin Grundy – Tennis Professional
A decorated collegiate player, Austin competed in No.1 singles for four years at Morningside College. He was a four-time Great Plains Athletic All-Conference selection in singles, and also in doubles in 2013. He holds Morningside records for most combined career victories (80). Austin has taught private lessons as well as clinics, to juniors and adults since 2008, most recently at DMGolf. Along with teaching tennis at Aspen, Austin is currently Assistant Coach for Grandview University’s tennis team.
