Merry Christmas from Genesis Health Clubs! It seems like just yesterday 2016 was coming to a close, and yet here we are, wrapping up 2017 and getting ready for an exciting 2018. This year has been a remarkably eventful one for Genesis. After a huge explosion of growth last year, we’ve remodeled several clubs, completed lengthy construction projects and even acquired a few new ones, including our first clubs in Colorado.
Throughout all of the change and growth, we’ve focused on our Core Purpose: Results for Life. Now with 44 clubs in five states, we’re impacting thousands of lives every day. People are taking control of their health and with Genesis, they’re never alone. We’re on a mission through our team of Personal Trainers, Fitness Advisors and Group Exercise Coordinators to help every step of the way and make sure our members experience life changing results.
It’s in this spirit that we’d like to offer all of our members a few special gifts this year. First, each member will receive two 12 Days of Fitness passes that can be given to a local friend or family member who has never tried Genesis before, on us. We also realize that a lot of you have visiting friends and family or college students home for winter break, so for the first time, we’re offering each member a complimentary 10-day pass that can be used for out of town guests to make your Holidays just a little more fit and fun.
Read on for more detail on what we’ve been up to and the big developments in the works for next year. We hope you had a wonderful 2017 and that you’re ready for all of the joy and excitement that 2018 has in store. We could not do what we do without you and for that, we wish you a Merry Christmas to remember.
Yours in Health,
Rodney Steven II

Genesis is at it again! 2017 brought on new acquired locations, completed renovations, and new construction projects. Find out what happened this year!
In January, Genesis experienced the largest grand opening in our history in St. Joseph, MO, completing the three-year multi-million dollar project. What started as a small, aging tennis facility was transformed into one of the largest and most luxurious locations in our company.
In March, Genesis acquired HealthRidge, a truly special facility which was rechristened Genesis Health Clubs – Ridgeview. If you’re looking for a health club that truly has it all, this is the one, and it helps round out our huge selection of places to work out for our members in the Kansas City area.
November saw a move into a whole new state for Genesis with the acquisition of Miramont Lifestyle Fitness in Fort Collins, Colorado. These three beautiful facilities with mountain views are remarkably similar to some of our locations and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the Genesis family.
2017 saw a flurry of remodeling, renovations and new equipment through the entire company. Clubs throughout the company received new cardio and strength training equipment. Tara Plaza and Cass in Omaha received extensive remodeling with new equipment, upgraded finishes, and expanded amenities. In Tulsa, our Woodland Hills and Broken Arrow clubs received the Genesis makeover. These facilities are looking sharp, and we can’t wait to continue the improvements into next year.
No discussion of Genesis in 2017 would be complete without a look at All-American Training, our heart rate-based interval program that’s sweeping the Midwest, and for good reason. Members burn 600-1,000 calories in a single hour and have an afterburn effect that can last for days after. It’s fast, fun, social and it’s coming to a club near you.
AAT started at our Rock Road location and was so popular that we’re expanding it as quickly as possible into other markets. Both of our clubs in Lincoln received their AAT rooms this year, along with Cass in Omaha and a soon-to-open location near our Ridgeview location in Olathe.
A long-awaited transformation is almost complete. Come join us on 1/6/18 for the grand opening you’ve all been waiting for as we unveil the beacon of fitness and tennis in Topeka. Our goal is to have a major world-class tennis facility in each of our markets and this one will be the standard-setter. See you there!
Ward Parkway is currently undergoing one of the most major transformations we’ve ever performed. Everything about the facility will be newer, more luxurious and more open. It’s not an understatement to say that you may not recognize it when we’re finished in late January!
November also saw the official groundbreaking on our long-awaited Manhattan facility. There have been some delays in getting this project started, but things are moving briskly now and Manhattan will have its fitness landmark take shape in 2018.
Early 2018 will see the beginning of a major remodeling project for our Overland Park location. We have big plans here and we can’t wait to share them with you in the near future. Look for a big announcement soon!
2018 will also see the kick-off of a major renovation project, bringing yet another world class-tennis facility, this time to Omaha. Stay tuned for more news.
In 2018, Group Exercise will focus on adding even more new and exciting classes and keep our team current on the new trends. We are always looking for ways to make your workouts innovative and fun, but keep you working hard to meet your goals.
Personal Training continues to rise. We constantly strive to give you the best experience with our high-quality Personal Trainers. This month, Genesis is offering 25% off half hour Personal Training packages, session minimum required. Plus, all Personal Training programs purchased in the month of December have no commitment, down payment required. See your local Fitness Manager to get started.

Tennis at Genesis has had so many exciting things happening this past year. With 10 tennis facilities in the company, we have thousands of members playing the game on 75 tennis courts. We have over 55 Tennis Professionals working hard to inspire you to get in the game. Take a look at the flurry of events that has happened.
Not only did we have a Genesis Overland Park Women’s 4.0 Team win the National USTA Team Championship, but we also had USTA Adult Teams qualify for Nationals from our Overland Park, Rock Road, and Topeka Southwest locations. Our Juniors are spectacular as well, with individual, doubles and team champions playing in our clubs. Our juniors played top level at the State High School this year. Fantastic job players, we look forward to seeing what you can do next year. Genesis won the Organization of the Year award for Kansas and Heart of America. We were also recognized with awards in League Leadership, High Performance Junior Tennis, Tournament Administration and Sportsmanship. Great job team!
Genesis acquired three new tennis facilities in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. We are excited to have the new facilities apart of our team and grow and learn from them as much as we hope they do from us. Along with the renovations going on this past year, the tennis got some updates including new lights and surfaces. We’re looking forward to more improvements planned for 2018.
Genesis is excited to introduced new and improved programming with the launch of Extreme Cardio Tennis. Get ready to burn more calories than ever before with this high intensity, high impact Tennis class. We are close to achieving our first Million Calories burned in 2017. What will we hit in 2018? The sky’s the limit!
On behalf of your tennis team we would like to thank you for your participation and support. Our wish is that your game is filled with dazzling shot making, amazing matches, and most importantly new friendships and fun forged. Get ready for 2018, we have so much in store for you. According to a study done by the University of Scranton, weight loss is the number one
The time to set a New Year’s resolution is now, but do you have a plan on how to follow through? Here are 8 tips for accomplishing your New Year’s weight loss resolution.
According to new research, if you’re an average American, your weight at the beginning of autumn will be lower than what your scale will display by the end of the holiday season, and it will take you around five months to lose what you’ve gained.
That means the extra pounds you’ve gained won’t be shed until around June. That’s right—swimsuit season.
Many people who have a weight loss goal in mind don’t have a plan on how to get there. A detailed plan is needed to ensure you have a schedule to follow and can be held accountable.
Whether your plan is to exercise three times a week, track everything you eat or lose five pounds per month, write these goals down and follow through. Have plans that are trackable, realistic and specific.
Remember that weight loss isn’t a goal. Goals are the actions taken to reach the desired end result.
Making basic changes in your everyday life can add up to a big difference. These changes don’t have to be drastic or happen all at once, but they should be acknowledged with the final goal of making them a habit.
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther away from work or the grocery store, going out to eat sparingly and drinking more water are a few of the small changes that can be made.
Goals are easily accomplished when you have someone on your team. Find a friend, relative, or co-worker with the same goal in mind and reach it together.
Whether your goal is to eat better or work out more, both are more fun with a friend. Not only can you hold each other accountable, but you can provide a support system and a little bit of healthy competition.
Nutrition plays a vital role in conquering your weight loss goals. Fuel your body with nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day to help maintain energy.
Meal prepping is beneficial for people who work or are on the go frequently. Instead of driving down the street to your favorite fast food restaurant, plan and prepare your meals ahead of time to help set yourself up for success.
Pick a certain day, such as Sunday, to prepare all of your meals for the upcoming week. Be sure to include adequate fats, carbohydrates and protein, which will ensure you stay energized and satiated.
When it comes to eating right, it doesn’t have to mean you can’t enjoy any of your favorite foods. Be sure to have realistic goals that can be met. Most people are successful if they remember the 90% rule—eat healthy most of the time and allow that additional 10% to be used for special treats.
Being short on sleep can really put a damper on your weight loss. Not only can a lack of sleep cause you to be too tired to go to the gym or cook a nutritious dinner, but it can also increase cortisol levels.
Cortisol is a stress hormone that signals your body to hold onto excess fat around the midsection—making it difficult to lose weight.
Sleeping is like nutrition for your body, so be sure to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night.
Whether you have a gym membership, want a gym membership or just workout at home, exercising is crucial to your weight loss journey.
Write down the days you plan on working out and have your gym bag ready. This way, you will be prepared and will have your day planned—giving you plenty of time to fit in a workout.
Treat your workouts like important meetings you can’t miss. Eventually your exercise routine will become a habit and you’ll become healthier with each workout.
