Bio
I have been teaching yoga since I was a senior in high school in 1973.  Back then, the only resource I had was B.K.S. Iyengar’s “Light on Yoga.”  My classes were held in a women’s only health club and known as “stretch” time. Many years later, I was blessed to have the two greatest teachers of yoga, Bobbi Goldin and Aadil Palkhivala.  These two individuals directed me in ways that challenged my thinking -  thus changing my life forever.

Experience
Teaching yoga since 1973, beginning in the Iyengar tradition.  Primary teachers are Aadil Palkhivala, Bobbi Goldin, and Rod Stryker. Founded Barefoot Studio and The Institute of Interdisciplinary Yoga Studies in 2000, the first school in the Midwest to educate and train yoga teachers.  Past reviewer of yoga school applications for Yoga Alliance. Created the yoga teacher training program for the Life Centre, in Notting Hill, London, UK. Taught at yoga and Pilates at Wichita State University until 2006.

Focus of classes: to educate students about yoga, and their bodies so they feel more empowered in their everyday lives.

Yoga Instructor - Genevieve Barba

Education: B.A. in Anthropology and Environmental Studies, University of Kansas

Background, Training and Approach to Yoga:
Genevieve's yoga practice began in 1997. After more than 10 years of dance training, it was a new way to move in her body, and she loved it! She was also drawn to the peace and clear mind that she experienced in Savasana. Her first yoga teacher, Anna Lunaria, emphasized correct anatomical alignment and pranayama. Genevieve grew and benefited greatly from her teacher's knowledgeable guidance and detailed instruction.

Genevieve completed her 200 hour Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Training in 2008.

In her teacher training she found that there is more to yoga than the postures. Yoga teaches us to be aware in the present moment and to be thankful for what really matters in life. Over the past 12 years, Genevieve has practiced many different kinds of yoga, including Iyengar, Vinyasa, Power, Ashtanga, Bikram, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga. There are many ways of practicing yoga, and she hopes everyone can find their best fit. Genevieve enjoys sharing the positive energy of yoga with students and looks forward to learning more.

Yoga Instructor - Barbara Quadlander

Dr. Barbara Quadlander comes to yoga with a deep interest in natural healing and body biomechanics. After working twelve years in a lab and pharmacy her interest in holistic health led her to Cleveland Chiropractic School at Kansas City where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1993. Since then, her philosophy as a chiropractor has been to promote the health and wellness of the person as a whole. The addition of acupuncture to her practice in 2003 provided one more avenue to improve and maintain a healthy body and energy meridians.

After starting a yoga class in 1999, she found herself talking frequently with patients about the benefits of yoga and giving out tips or stretches she learned in class. She deals daily with the ill effects created by years of habitual bad posture in her patients that have produced pain and faulty biomechanics. She believes that yoga is a means of longevity, strengthening muscles, increasing total body awareness, and improving alignment.

She is currently finishing her yoga studies at the Yoga School of Therapeutics in Kansas City and under
Renee DeTar’s direction to obtain her RYT 500 certification. When not in her office at Back to Health Chiropractic Center or hanging out at Genesis lifting weights and practicing yoga, she can be found sailing at the helm of her boat on nearby Cheney Lake. Barbara teaches at our West 13th Location and at West Central.

Yoga Instructor - Rachel Roberts

Bio
I am a fun loving person whom enjoys life to the fullest.  I have a lot of international friends and they are my family and joy here in Wichita and beyond.  I grew up in Pratt and moved here in 1999 to attended Newman University.  I have been very happy to call Wichita my home the last 10 years.  Genesis was my stress relief during nursing school.  I have five siblings, 1 niece, and 3 nephews.  During my time as an aide in Pratt I decided that yoga would protect my back from all the lifting that I do in nursing.  So I started with a video.  When I came to Wichita, yoga was really established through Renee De Tar and I started taking classes in 2002.  Her focus on detail and anatomy has been what I enjoy about Genesis yoga.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Genesis?
I love the members.  There are some characters in my Early AM classes and they totally make my day.  Additionally, I really love the support from the GF coordinators and instructors.  We are a great team.

Bio:
I live with 3 boys; my husband Tim, Brodie who is 4 ½ and Gabe who is 2 ½.   In the summer we love to camp, hike, backpack and go boating.  This summer was the first time that Brodie skied behind the boat.  I was a wreck.
We also love to snow ski, sled and camp in the winter.  Well, actually that would be my husband camping in the winter – not me.  One of my favorite things to do is time myself skiing down Andy’s Encore at Copper Mtn.  It’s one of the longest blue runs on the mountain.  My best time so far is about 7 1/2 minutes.  That’s where all those squats come in handy.

Hobbies, passions:
I have a passion for prenatal fitness.  There is so much information out on exercising while pregnant but where does a woman find out what SHE needs?  It can be so confusing.  I’ve been working with a small group of women at Genesis to develop a pre/post natal program to help build a social network and classes to help answer these questions for our pregnant members.

Yoga Instructor - Mitzi Burroughs

Certifications:
ACE, Group Power and Group Centergy (Genesis instructor for 11 years)

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Genesis?
The members!  My favorite part is when I know I've improved someone's life because they are stronger and healthier.  Beginners are my favorite because it's easiest to see them change.

Bio:
I have been married 25 years this Ocotber 2009 to my husband Nick.  We have three children, Tyler, Paige and Cale, and 2 grandsons Jaxon and Camden (Camden is due soon.)  ...and a princess, Lilly, she's actually a pomeranian!  I love to be outside gardening. I'm a nerd I watch the history channel (my degree from WSU is English Language and Lit. with a History minor).
