I decided to give Genesis a try a couple of years ago during one of their Women's Fair Fitness Challenges. To date, I have completed three of their challenges. And last year made the official switch from the Y to a full time member of Genesis. I've lost over 100 pounds and I feel great!
At first, I was apprehensive about working out at Genesis and had some misconceptions as an obese person. I've since learned that the people are what make Genesis AWESOME! From my warm greeting at the front desk when I check in, to the friendly group fitness instructors, I have become very comfortable at Genesis. I’ve had a few sessions with a Personal Trainer and not only are they great, but every time I see my trainer in the club he always has words of encouragement for me and notices my progress.
They have so much to offer, and I’ve tried to really focus on using all aspects of my membership and really get the most out of it. I love, love, love the Group Power classes! I do water aerobics, swim laps and tango with the elliptical and tread climber regularly. I’ve even met with their Nutrionist to enhance my experience and new healthy lifestyle.
Since losing the weight, my lifestyle has been completely different. I have energy. I can do everything, nothing stops me! It feels as though I have a whole different life now, and with a little weight still left to lose I’m very confident I’ll meet my goals.
THANK YOU GENESIS!
I moved back from Oklahoma in early spring of 2008 and joined shortly thereafter. Genesis was my 'safe haven,' if you will, as I was going through a divorce at the time and knew no one in Hutchinson (although I had grown up in this town). They were advertising an open house for all of the classes where you could sample each class to get an idea of ones you might be intere
sted in, so my sister and I went to Group Power, Group Ride, and Zumba...we fell in love! GP offered instruction and a full weight-lifting routine where I didn't have to worry
about which muscles I worked which days. GR allowed me maximum calorie burn which ended up being a wonderful option in conjunction with running.
Since joining Genesis in 2008, I have lost 50lbs which helped me reach my true goal of 100lbs lost since February of 2007! Working out is not only a necessity for me but has become a passion and desire to help others realize they too can choose to live a healthier lifestyle.
The future looks good to me now! I won’t stop working at it! Thanks Genesis!
I joined Genesis back in 2005. I weighed 170 pounds. In July of 05 I decided to take private Pilates lesson. I got in touch with Renee DeTar & from there my life changed. She taught me how to eat right & take care of my body. In November of 2005 she finally asked me if I would try Yoga. I went to my 1st class which was a Yoga 2/3 & was I c
razy or what but, I absolutely fell in love with it. Yoga allowed me to understand my body & finally in May of 2006 Genesis brought Group Ride & again Renee told me I need to try it. I did!
Now it’s 2010 & I am in the best shape of my life. There is not a day that goes by that you won’t see me in the gym. I now do Yoga, Centergy & Group Ride every week. Joining Genesis was the best thing I ever did along with meeting Renee. The support from everyone is what kept me going. Now I have the honor to say I am one of them! I teach Yoga & Group Centergy. When a new member steps into my class I am able to relate to them. I have been right where they are. I know everyone has the ability to change, get healthy & in shape...I am proof of that!
You can't just go on a diet and expect real and lasting weight loss. Working out and eating healthy has to become a habit and as much a part of your daily routine as combing your hair or brushing your teeth.
As human beings, we cannot function in neutral. You're either moving closer to your goal

s or farther away from your goals with your habits and actions. So make a decision today to move closer toward your goals and dreams.
Real change happened for me when I REPLACED BAD HABITS with GOOD HABITS. It wasn't enough to work out hard for an hour, but still continue eating out at restaurants with all the hidden sugar and salt in every meal. In order to lose the weight, I had to exercise AND eat healthy. One without the other is not enough.
The best advice I can give anyone is to ACCEPT PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for the diet and exercise decisions you have made in your life to this point. If those decisions were poor, then humbly admit it and move on. But don't beat yourself up over it. Simply realize that by accepting PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for your actions, YOU ARE EMPOWERING YOURSELF for positive change--beginning now.
One year ago I began thinking of breaking my vow I had made to myself. I had one full knee replacement and, at 80 years old, I vowed to never do that again. So my left arthritic knee was becoming more and more painful, and at 205 pounds, walking up stairs, shopping, or carrying in the groceries was very difficult. I knew I had to do something, and fortunately I made a really good decision.
I called Genesis Health Clubs.
Jeff gave me a tour of the facility and after having all my questions answered, I signed up to be a member and was given an appointment with a trainer for three free sessions. Myrtle evaluated what I could do, what I needed to do, and how to do it. From that point on my life was changed. I enjoy going to work out every week day, and my trainer is so valuable to me that I have worked with her every Saturday too. With her help and my hard work I have become much stronger, have lost almost 50 pounds, and no longer take the pain medication for my knee! My arthritic knee is not “cured” but I am so much stronger and lighter that I can now do those activities that were so painful before. I have even done things that I only imagined years ago, like making my first tandem skydive a few months ago.
The future looks good to me now! I won’t stop working at it! Thanks Genesis!
In the year 2000 I tested for my black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. I also participated in the Bike Across Kansas for several years. At the time I was in fairly good physical condition. Due to a family illness I stopped participating in all physical activities to take care of my husband and two children. After my divorce and things settled down I began to work on myself again. In August of 2008 I was lying in bed one morning and I thought to myself, “I am better than this. I am tired of being fat, feeling like crap and being unhappy”.
So, one of my best friends invited me to work out with her at Genesis. She usually worked out with her daughter but she had left town for college. It worked out great. We work out four to five times a week doing cardio and weights. It was really hard at first because I was so out of shape but I was determined. I started out very slowly. In the past I had always been in a big hurry and this time I decided I was going to be patient. I started out by walking on the treadmill at 3.3 miles per hour. Pitiful I know, but now I actually run! I usually do cardio for about an hour. I change it up between the treadmill and Stairmaster and the bicycle. I am more concerned with how many calories I burn than how many miles I go.
I also started eating correctly, although I do eat things that are not that great for me on the weekends. I also try to eat less. When I do go out I only eat about half of the plate that is served. Leftovers are fabulous. I also partake in libations on the weekend. If I deprive myself of all things not so healthy I wouldn’t have made it. The biggest help for me was to have a good friend that usually went with me to work out. When one of us didn’t really feel like it we made each other go, also being patient and determined. It is not easy but if you decide you can do it.
Genesis is great. Everyone is helpful and kind. I have friends there now and it makes it easier to go. I also have another friend that is overweight that I have bugged long enough and she is now going. She enjoys Genesis as well. Some people think they are too fat to go to the gym. Duh, that is what it is for! Start where you are and make little goals and eventually you will get there.
"I just wanted to let you know about some success I've had since I've joined Genesis. In late March when I joined, I got 3 free sessions with a trainer. I continued with Robert for 6 sessions after the initial 3 to fine tune things.
Here is what has happened since I started. I went to the doctor on Monday and I've lost 15 pounds & several inches off my waistline but more importantly my blood pressure has come down to 120/80. My cholesterol dropped from 222 to 99! These are life-changing things that will help me have a much healthier & longer life. The doctor wanted to put me on meds initially & I said no to let me see how the workout thing goes.
I believe it is all due to getting started in the right program with the right trainer. The free sessions got it started & Robert helped me to stay focused and now it is just routine to come in the morning, 6 days a week.
You have a member for life that is now healthier & more informed about the balance between diet and exercise.
Keep up the good work. I hope you have heard of others with similar success due to free Personal Trainer sessions. Please give Robert a big "At a Boy" for his interest in others helping them achieve healthier lifestyles. Your really hit a home run with me and the free Personal Trainer sessions."
Thanks again,
Jeff Keeny
To Genesis Club Management and Staff:
My girlfriend and I recently purchased memberships with you all and I wanted to write a short note to let you know how much we are enjoying ourselves.
In my life, I have had 3 gym memberships for a total of five years. This does not include the college gyms, etc... I can honestly say that none of my other purchases can compare to what I have experienced so far with Genesis.
From the purchase of the membership from Brian (who listened to what we said and didn't try to "wow" us with a fancy and unnecessary sales pitch) to friendly front desk staff to extremely helpful and attentive managers, we could not be more happy.
Word of mouth is the best way to advertise and I can not say enough good about you all- in fact, I am heanding out the 25 referral forms this week! (Perhaps you all can even get me back in shape!)
Looking forward to a long-standing relationship,
Rob Ross
"My name is Alia Mahi I have been a member for two years. Genesis is the best club I have ever joined. I have lived in Los Angeles, San Diego, Montana and by far this is the best club! I have joined Bally's, Gold's, 24 hour Fitness, an All Women Club and still Genesis has been the most rewarding experience. I love your staff. James Muniz knows how to make every person feel welcome and special. The service is great and it makes working out actually enjoyable! I just wanted to pass on that the club is one of the things I will miss most about Wichita."
Thank you!
Alia Mahi
"I am a member at the Rock Road location - but saw a 6:30 pm cardio/ab class at your facility I wanted to try. Did try it yesterday - and LOVED IT! The instructor (Cesario) was wonderful and really gives you a good work out. Best thing is, he is friendly and really makes the workout fun. Makes you want to return ~ which I plan to do. Just wanted to let you know you have a great instructor."
